About this office
Understand the responsibilities, authority, and limits of the office in this contest.
What a U.S. representative does
U.S. representatives introduce, debate, and vote on federal legislation, conduct oversight, and exercise the House's constitutional impeachment power.
Shared authority: One representative does not enact federal law alone. Bills generally require both chambers and presidential action, and committee work is distinct from a recorded House floor vote.
How FactVote presents the public record: FactVote retains every available numbered House floor position explicitly attributed through the official member identifier. Committee action, sponsorship, voice votes, motives, and omitted names are not inferred.
