Start with the source
FactVote brings together election information, public records, candidate statements, legislation, votes, statistics, and video passages. Source links, dates, quotations, and locators help readers check the underlying material. Coverage varies by state, office, topic, and time period; a missing record is not evidence that an event or position does not exist.
Consult the source directory and the citations attached to the item you are reading. Official voting instructions come from your election office.
Evidence and interpretation
A candidate statement reports what the speaker said. A recorded vote reports an action on a particular measure, with its own text and context. Neither automatically establishes a broader position, motive, policy outcome, or endorsement.
Summaries, issue classifications, evidence relationships, and issue matches are FactVote assessments of the cited material. A match is a research aid based on the available evidence and your selected issues. It is not an endorsement or a complete account of a candidate. Our methodology aims to preserve each statistic’s geography, definition, and reporting period and avoid treating unlike measures as directly comparable. Check the original source and the scope shown on the item before making a comparison.
AI and human review
Automated tools and AI can assist research, extraction, classification, and summaries. AI-assisted answers, where enabled, can be wrong even when they include citations. Read the source and surrounding context before relying on a claim.
Some material has item-specific review or publication information. That information applies to the identified item and version. Publication, a source link, or an internal audit artifact does not establish that every fact has been independently verified or reviewed by a person. FactVote does not claim universal human review.
Report a possible error
Use the flag control on a video evidence card to report a broken link, an incorrect footnote, or a source that differs from the summary. A successful submission stores the card, source reference, and published version in the card-report queue. Where Ask the Facts is enabled, its answer-report control stores feedback linked to the answer and evidence.
Other pages can be reported through Contact / Report an Error. Include the exact page, statement, and supporting source. Reports do not automatically alter or remove content. Review tools exist for card and AI reports; submission does not guarantee a response, a review deadline, or a particular change.
There is no site-wide public correction log or public report-status tracker at present. When evaluating an item, use the dates and review information actually displayed on that item.
Use the information in context
Summaries can omit nuance and records can become outdated. See the Election & AI Disclaimer for limits on ballot tools and election information, and the Copyright & Content Use page for source-material reuse.
