Operator and scope
FactVote is personally operated by Chris Sanders. This policy covers FactVote accounts, research preferences, saved content, reports, and enabled interactive features. External sources, embedded media, and sign-in providers have their own privacy practices.
Accounts and saved information
Creating an account stores your email, a password hash, account dates, verification status, and account role. Google sign-in, when configured and used, associates a Google account identifier and email with your FactVote account; FactVote does not receive your Google password.
Available account features can store your preferred state and county, selected issues, saved ballot selections, and saved video cards. Saved cards include a snapshot of the card. These preferences and selections can reveal political interests or views. Do not treat saved ballot choices as an official ballot or a vote.
Reports, discussions, and AI
Video-card reports store the card and video identifiers, published version, category, selected source or footnote, a snapshot, submission date, and account identifier when signed in. The current card form does not ask for a reply email. Emails you send contain the information and attachments you choose to provide.
Debate posts, where enabled, display the author name you supply, arguments, and attached evidence publicly. Drafts can also be saved in your browser. Do not include information you want to keep private in a public post.
Where Ask the Facts is enabled, questions, conversation history, page context, and retrieved evidence can be sent to OpenAI to generate an answer. Signed-in conversations can be saved to your account. Answer snapshots, feedback, and technical usage or cache records can be retained separately for the AI workflow. Avoid entering sensitive personal information into AI tools.
Cookies and browser storage
A session cookie keeps you signed in. Google sign-in uses a temporary state cookie when configured. The session is set to expire after 30 days; logout clears the active session cookie. Clearing cookies can sign you out.
Browser storage is used for the theme, dismissed beta notice, decision-lens choices, and debate drafts or saved workspace choices. Clearing FactVote site data through your browser removes browser-only copies and preferences; it does not delete account information or submitted reports stored on the server.
Some issue choices or filters can appear in page URLs. Shared links, browser history, and requests to hosting or third-party services can expose URL information. Check a URL before sharing it.
Services and automatic information
Hosting and database infrastructure process requests and stored data. Requests can include IP addresses, browser details, page URLs, and referrer information; technical errors and operational information may appear in logs. Logging and backup retention depend on the environment and provider configuration.
Configured email delivery uses Resend. If you request emailed ballot notes, the recipient address and selected ballot choices are sent through that email service. Google handles optional Google sign-in. OpenAI handles enabled AI requests. YouTube embeds and its player scripts contact Google/YouTube; using the privacy-enhanced embed domain does not make playback anonymous. External source links send you to the source provider.
Cloudflare Web Analytics can load in production when its token is configured. Cloudflare describes that analytics product as using no analytics cookies or browser-storage identifiers. This is separate from FactVote’s functional storage and embedded services. See Cloudflare’s description and Google’s privacy policy.
Donations are not available during the public beta. If you previously used a hosted test checkout, information you submitted there is subject to that provider’s privacy practices. FactVote does not have a payment-card entry form.
How information is used
Information supports sign-in, saved preferences and research, public discussions, email delivery, AI responses, report handling, and operation and security of the service. Providers receive information needed for the features they handle. Submitted public discussion content is visible to other readers.
Controls, retention, and requests
You can change available preferences in your account, remove individual saved video cards, log out, and clear browser storage. These actions have different effects: removing a saved card does not erase a report or a separate snapshot.
There is no self-service account deletion control and no single published retention period covering accounts, reports, AI artifacts, logs, and backups. Data can remain in these stores until removed through the applicable administrative or provider process. Logout is not an account-deletion request.
For access, correction, deletion, or a copy of information associated with you, email [email protected] from your account email where relevant. Identity verification may be needed. Available rights and exceptions depend on applicable law and your location; this policy does not promise a particular completion time or immediate deletion from every store.
Security and children
The current sign-in implementation uses salted password hashes and an HttpOnly session cookie, with Secure enabled in production. These controls do not guarantee security. Do not send passwords or payment-card information in reports or email.
FactVote is a general-audience election research service, not directed to children under 13. Contact [email protected] if you believe a child has supplied personal information.
