Latest audited results
Fiscal year ended June 30, 2025
Government-wide revenue and expenses for Maine's primary government on the accrual basis, combining governmental and business-type activities and excluding discretely presented component units.
FactVote used the Legislature's exact FY2027 General Fund grand total and department table after the Second Regular Session, combined only the three named public higher-education systems, and assigned the residual exactly to All other departments and agencies. FY2025 tax-source shares and audited activity come from the government-wide ACFR, while current rate facts come from Maine Revenue Services.
The $6.179 billion headline is the General Fund appropriation, not Maine's all-funds budget; Highway, federal, Other Special Revenue, and other funds are excluded.
The spending chart is organized by large recipient rather than by a uniform statewide policy taxonomy; only the three named higher-education systems are combined.
Appropriations are spending authority, not actual expenditures, and later financial orders, transfers, or enacted changes can alter available amounts.
FY2025 audited activity is on the accrual basis and is not the same period or accounting measure as the FY2027 General Fund budget.
Municipal property taxes are not consolidated into the State's government-wide tax total, so the property-tax slice does not measure all property taxes paid in Maine.
Individual-income-tax brackets vary by filing status, and the 2% surcharge begins at different taxable-income thresholds.
Local property-tax rates and assessed values vary among municipalities and the unorganized territory.

FactVote uses NAEP Data Service mean scale scores for all public-school students in Maine. The series uses the total student group and the main reading and mathematics composite scales for Grade 4 and Grade 8.
NAEP is generally administered every two years; the 2021 administration was postponed, so the timeline moves from 2019 to 2022.
NAEP results are estimates from a sample. Statistical significance, not a visual gap alone, determines whether scores differ.
Each grade and subject has its own scale. Follow one line over time rather than comparing the numeric distance between grades or subjects.

Keep in mind
EIA does not publish a current Maine statewide weekly gasoline-price series. This New England regional estimate should not be read as Maine's statewide average.
The regional average combines Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont, and does not represent the price at every station or in every Maine community.

FactVote uses EIA's annual utility-scale net generation series and groups sources into seven categories. The residential price is EIA's annual average revenue per kilowatthour and includes generation, transmission, distribution, taxes, and fees reflected in electric bills.
Generation is electricity produced inside Maine, not electricity consumed there; interstate imports and exports are not represented.
The consistent utility-scale series excludes estimated generation from small-scale solar systems under 1 megawatt. Hydroelectric combines conventional and pumped-storage net generation. Maine's 'other' category is the residual of remaining reported sources; it is dominated by wood and wood-derived fuels and also includes other biomass, petroleum, and miscellaneous generation.
The residential price is a statewide nominal average and can mask large differences among utilities, plans, and household usage.

Method and limitations
FactVote uses EIA’s monthly New England (PADD 1A) Regular All Formulations Retail Gasoline Prices series. Monthly averages are simple averages of the published weekly estimates; prices include taxes.
This regional series covers Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont; it is not a Maine statewide average.
The regional average masks differences among states, communities, and individual stations.
Prices are nominal and not adjusted for inflation or seasonal patterns. The monthly series ends in August 2026 and can differ from the weekly fact.
Price changes alone do not establish the effect of any bill, official, or government action.

The total combines firearm deaths across intents, including suicide, homicide, legal intervention, and unintentional or undetermined injury.
It does not measure nonfatal injuries, firearm ownership, defensive uses, or policy effects.

The total includes retirement, survivor, disability, spouse, and child beneficiaries; the displayed groups are selected categories and do not sum to the total.
It does not measure benefit adequacy, private pensions, or retirement savings.

How it was measured
U.S. Census Bureau QuickFacts, sourced from the American Community Survey 2020–2024 five-year estimate.
Keep in mind
Foreign-born is not a measure of unauthorized immigration or current border crossings.
The Census does not assign legal status in this measure.

FactVote uses the Census Bureau's Vintage 2025 consistent state series. Population is the July 1 estimate. Change components describe the preceding annual estimates period, and the Census residual adjustment reconciles the components to the published population change.
Vintage estimates are revised as the Census Bureau incorporates newer records and methods.
Domestic and international migration are modeled demographic estimates, not direct counts of every move.
The small residual adjustment is included in the data table but not drawn as a separate bar.

The official Democratic and Republican U.S. Senate workbooks report 222,405 and 137,981 total ballots cast; the Green Independent House District 87 workbook reports 81. The total of 360,467 is 40.2% of the 897,677 active registrations in the state's March 7 file.
The primary denominator is the latest state-published active-registration snapshot before the election, dated March 7, rather than an election-day registration total; inactive records are excluded.
Primary and general elections present different contests and participation incentives.
Calculated from 842,447 total ballots cast in the Secretary of State's corrected presidential workbook and 1,037,570 active registered voters in its election-day voter file.
Keep in mind
The denominator includes active registered voters only; inactive records are excluded.
Registered-voter turnout is not participation among every voting-eligible resident and does not by itself measure election access or administration quality.

How it was measured
FactVote used the Maine CDC workbook's statewide occurrence total and procedure table; the five displayed procedure counts sum exactly to 2,427.
Keep in mind
This is an occurrence count, not a count of abortions obtained by Maine residents; the residence table reports 2,256 Maine residents and 171 residents of other states or territories.
A 2023 Maine law limited the data items collected, so the state workbook no longer provides several demographic breakdowns available in earlier years.
Facts are shown for context only and do not affect candidate matching or rankings. Dates, definitions, limitations, and primary sources are included with each figure.
