How Louisiana funds state services

The enacted FY2027 statewide appropriations, FY2025 audited State tax revenue, current tax rates, and enacted appropriations by service area. Each section preserves its own period and accounting scope; appropriations, audited activity, State taxes, and locally imposed taxes are not treated as interchangeable.

FY2027 enacted total appropriations

July 1, 2026–June 30, 2027

Total appropriations for State government reported in the Louisiana House's post-session summary, including the executive branch, legislature, judiciary, ancillary agencies, and capital outlay. FactVote reconstructed $53.4228 billion by summing the summary's eight service categories, each of which is published to the nearest $0.1 million; it is therefore a rounded presentation total, not a dollar-exact appropriation ledger.

FactVote used the Louisiana House's post-session statewide appropriation summary after the 2026 Regular Session. The eight published service categories, each rounded to $0.1 million, were converted to dollars and summed; that reconstructed figure is intentionally not labeled as a dollar-exact total. FY2025 tax-source shares and government-wide audited activity come from the ACFR, while current rates come from the Department of Revenue and the State Constitution.

  • The $53.4228 billion numeric value is reconstructed from eight categories published to the nearest $0.1 million. The State describes the plan as $53.4 billion, so the apparent precision beyond that level should not be interpreted as an exact ledger total.
  • Appropriations are legal spending authority, not audited cash spending, and the total includes federal funds, dedicated revenue, fees, interagency transfers, and capital outlay in addition to State General Fund support.
  • The tax-source denominator excludes the ACFR's $1.002 billion gaming line because the audited statement presents gaming separately from taxes. It also excludes locally retained taxes.
  • Louisiana property taxes and local sales taxes vary by parish, municipality, and special district. Assessment percentages and State rates do not determine a household's final combined bill.

Keep in mind
  • EIA does not publish a current Louisiana statewide weekly gasoline-price series. This Gulf Coast regional estimate should not be read as Louisiana’s statewide average.
  • The regional average combines Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, and Texas, and does not represent the price at every station or in every Louisiana community.
  • Prices are nominal and not adjusted for inflation or seasonal patterns. Weekly estimates can be revised and can differ from monthly averages.

Louisiana's results system calculates turnout using voters qualified for the election; the March event combined closed Democratic and Republican presidential primaries with local contests in some jurisdictions.

  • Not every Louisiana registrant was eligible for the same March ballot because the presidential preference primaries were closed and local contests varied by jurisdiction.
  • The two percentages are useful statewide participation summaries but their eligible-voter universes are not perfectly identical.
Louisiana Department of State: Official Election Results Review by January 31, 2027

How it was measured

Louisiana Department of State official election results report statewide turnout from participating voters and voters qualified for the selected election.

Keep in mind
  • Louisiana held presidential and congressional contests alongside open-primary and local contests, so the event is not titled simply a general election in state records.
  • The official results page notes that its denominator includes qualified voters for the election, not necessarily every registered voter statewide.
