Early in my career as a sportscaster, I interviewed Arch’s grandfather many times. People may not recall Archie playing briefly for the Houston Oilers in the 1982-83 season during the terrible rebuilding years after Bum and the “Luv Ya Blue“ era. He was surrounded by an awful team, but he was always a gentleman and a class act. Watching the game last night reminded me of watching Archie’s sons, Peyton and Eli, who took over games single-handedly and rallied their team from a potential defeat to victory. It was an amazing performance last night by the next Manning, who will surely play in the NFL.

“Senators like having a low bill number since it shows their bill is a priority of the Lt. Governor and has a high probability of passage. These bills represent the will of the conservative majority of Texans, and many will pass with bipartisan support. Just because a bill is not included in the top 40 does not mean it is not a priority for me or the Senate. There will be hundreds of bills that pass the Senate, all of which are important to Texas.

AUSTIN, Texas – Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and Speaker Dustin Burrows today announced the formation of Senate and House Select Committees on Civil Discourse & Freedom of Speech in Higher Education. These select committees will meet jointly to study and issue reports on bias, discourse, and freedom of speech across Texas college campuses. The State of Texas has a responsibility to ensure its publicly funded institutions foster open dialogue and do not discriminate against students, faculty, or staff based on their beliefs:

“The First Amendment guarantees the freedom of religion, of speech, of the press, of assembly, and of petition,” said Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick. “It is the First Amendment because it is the foundation of all our rights. In that list, the free exercise of religion is paramount. Take away a person’s right to free exercise of religion and every other right falls quickly. Charlie Kirk was my friend. He was assassinated for simply expressing his First Amendment rights. The attack on Charlie was an attack on the First Amendment. Those who cheered his murder are also cheering for the death of America. We cannot tolerate either at our institutions of higher learning.”
