When Rural Texans thrive, every Texan does better!

Candidate-stated

As Commissioner Jim Hightower said, “Everybody does better when everybody does better.” But for too long, rural Texans have been getting the short end of the stick, bad trade deals, shuttered factories, slow internet, and a government more interested in Wall Street profits than Main Street survival.

Stop AI Data Centers

Candidate position

Data centers, including those for AI, are cropping up across Texas. If we are not exceedingly smart with their design, placement, and purpose, they will cause higher water and power bills, run water wells dry, and may hurt jobs.

When Rural Texans thrive, every Texan does better!

Candidate position

The Agriculture Commissioner is supposed to be the champion of rural economic development. But just take a drive down any country road, and you will see what has happened: farms abandoned, businesses closed, and young people forced to leave the communities they love because the jobs and support just are not there.

Stop AI Data Centers

Data centers are causing massive inflation for computers, phones and tablets which working families, small businesses, and family farmers need to provide for themselves.

Rural Health

Candidate position

The Texas Agriculture Commissioner oversees the State Office of Rural Health, a critical agency tasked with making sure our communities have access to affordable, timely care. But with the upcoming Trump Big Beautiful Bill Medicaid cuts and corporate indifference on the rise, more rural hospitals will close on top of the 25 rural hospitals that have already closed. That is the most in the country. And when a hospital goes, so do the ambulances, the paramedics, the prenatal care, the cancer screenings, everything.

Stop AI Data Centers

Candidate position

The TX Ag Commissioner can stop, or at the very least buy time for locals and other officials to find different ways to stop, these irresponsible AI data centers from causing mass water/power inflation or harming . On Day 1 of the job, Clayton will issue "Ag Impact Studies" to force data centers to be honest with their resource consumption. This will also slow them down considerably. Clayton will also help locals set up "Ag Development Districts" so that locals can fight back.

Stop AI Data Centers

Candidate position

Data centers, including those for AI, are coming to mess with Texas. With them will come higher water and power bills, dry water wells, and no real jobs. These data centers are of, by, and for Wall Street. They will harm both Main Street families and County Road farms. We need an Agriculture Commissioner who will fight to stop all irresponsible AI data centers from causing mass utility inflation and who will put Texans first, not Wall Street or Big Tech.

Reducing 1-d-1 ag exemption down to 3 acres across texas

Candidate position

I want the counties and cities to actively support agriculture. Many counties requires a 10-acre minimum (9 acres + homestead) for an ag exemption. This should be lowered to 3 acres across Texas — something many other Texas counties have already done. This change is within the Chief Appraiser’s authority. I strongly believe the Ag commissioner can influence this by declaring that ag in Texas can be done on 3+ acres. This will force the chief appraisers to include this guidance in their countries 1-d-1 policy. Why 3 acres helps agriculture and everyone else: • It incentivizes more landowners to keep land in ag use and attracts new small-scale farmers who can’t afford 10+ acre tracts or the high taxes on 5-acre parcels. • It makes it economically viable to subdivide larger farms without massive rollback taxes, giving current landowners better per-acre value and opening options for buyers who aren’t millionaires. • Taxing entities benefit from new 3+ acre homes without the massive infrastructure burden of large subdivisions.

Hemp to rival other textiles and materials

Candidate position

For almost a decade I’ve seen videos and articles on how hemp fabrics or building materials could totally change the reliance on plastics and toxic materials. But since 2019, not much has been done to make hemp more popular or supported as an alternative to polyester or chemical based products. I think that not only as a crop to help revitalize soil but also as a source of new industries, Texas should work to support it.

Stop Housing Developments

Candidate position

San Antonio, Austin, Killeen, Waco, and Dallas/Fort Worth are essentially going to combine into one mega city completely eradicating rural living. Our wildlife population is suffering, and hunting for our food has become increasingly difficult since the deer population have moved to the suburbs. Additionally, housing prices in low population areas have skyrocketed without the job market expanding at the same pace. Finally, these $300,000-$700,000 cookie cutter homes are poorly built, leaving your average Texan to deal with safety issues from poor construction, causing tens of thousands of dollars due to preventable repairs.

Unions for Texas Farm Workers and other working class folks on Texan farms

Candidate position

Howdy Clayton, As part of your fight against Sid Miller, I think you should consider being more pro-worker and pro-unionization of farm worker communities. As we have seen with the NYC Mayoral race with Zohram Mamdani, you should be as pro-working class as possible to win this race. A lot of farmers are super rich, but there are way more poor farm workers than those rich farm owners. Please consider fighting for the working class and unionization of farm worker communities. If you want young Texans to vote for you, consider those who work on those farms- not just the owners. Thank you for your consideration, Kayte Weeks

Right now, a handful of giant corporations control nearly everything we eat, from the seeds in the ground to the products on grocery store shelves. These monopolies rig the rules. They limit competition, inflate prices, and squeeze both ends of the food chain, the farmers who grow our food and the families who buy it.
