Gun policy

Candidate position

“A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” At the time this was written, there was no national army, because people were afraid such an army would usurp the authority of the states. The objective of the second amendment was to allow the existence of militias, to ensure this did not happen. It had nothing to do with individual gun ownership for other purposes.

Homes and communities as foundations for wellbeing

Candidate position

Every person has inherent dignity and deserves to live in a safe, stable home. Where we live should not determine our life’s trajectory. When we ensure that good places to live exist in every neighborhood—rural, suburban and urban—we honor people’s dignity and strengthen our entire region.

Reimagining work and opportunity

Candidate position

The decline in job security and wage growth stems from policy decisions—such as weakened labor protections, uneven education funding and underinvestment in infrastructure and childcare—that have tilted the playing field. When people’s ability to build wellbeing depends on precarious jobs and unpredictable schedules, it’s not because they lack drive; it’s because the system is failing to provide the supports they need.

Jobs and economic development

Candidate position

That same principle guides her approach to Ohio's data center boom: economic development should pay its own way. As these facilities expand across the state, the companies that profit from them—not working families—should cover the cost of the power lines and grid upgrades they require, so no one's electric bill goes up to subsidize a corporation. Paying their own way means protecting the communities around them, too: Vanessa will fight the water, air, and noise pollution these facilities can bring, so no neighborhood has to trade its health or quality of life for a corporation's bottom line. And she'll make sure our communities aren't overrun in the process—that sprawling data centers don't replace our farmland or exhaust the resources our families and future depend on.

Reimagining work and opportunity

Candidate position

We can redesign our economy to work for everyone by raising wages, ensuring predictable hours, investing in apprenticeship and training programs, expanding child care and transportation options, and supporting small businesses and innovation. These policies recognize that building wellbeing is a community project—it takes a construction crew, not just individual effort. When we invest in workers and the conditions that allow them to thrive, we all benefit through stronger local economies, healthier families and a more resilient future.

Candidate position

I believe we can respect the Second Amendment while advancing practical, common-sense measures that help reduce gun violence, prevent tragedies, and keep weapons out of the hands of individuals who pose a danger to themselves or others. Investing in health for shared prosperity

Candidate position

Americans pay more for health care than people in other wealthy countries because of policy choices that allow unaffordable prescription drugs, fragmented care and opaque pricing. These structural problems mean that families have to choose between paying for medicine and paying for housing or food. Blaming individuals obscures the real issue: our health‑care system has been designed to prioritize profits over patients.

Building a secure and prosperous future for everyone

Candidate position

We can redesign these systems. By negotiating prescription‑drug prices, expanding access to preventive care, raising the minimum wage and investing in education and child care, we shore up the materials that build wellbeing. Many Americans worry that a powerful few use their influence to rig policies to benefit themselves at the expense of regular people. Distrust in government and the economy flourishes when campaign finance loopholes, opaque lobbying rules and weak enforcement allow corruption to fester. This isn’t an indictment of individuals; it’s evidence that our systems need repair.

We can redesign health‑care rules to put people first: empower Medicare and Medicaid to negotiate drug prices, cap out‑of‑pocket costs, fund community clinics and invest in preventive care. Restoring trust and integrity in our democracy and economy

Candidate position

To restore trust, we can strengthen rules that limit money in politics, require transparency in lobbying and enforce ethical standards. We should design economic policies that reward work over speculation, incentivize local investment and prevent monopolistic practices. When people see that the rules are fair and that everyone’s voice counts, they are more likely to engage constructively in solving our shared challenges. Through ingenuity and collective action, we can reclaim our democracy and build an economy that reflects our shared values.

Religious freedom and church-state separation

Candidate position

Oftentimes, people do things out of ignorance, and sometimes even out of malice. God calls upon us to forgive one another, because we all sin and fall short of the glory of God. We want to be forgiven for the sins we commit against our fellow man, so the Bible reminds us to forgive that we may be forgiven. As a Christian, I use the Bible as my guidebook. I do, however, believe in the separation of church and state, so I don't expect everyone to share my religious convictions, but forgiving someone is an act of goodwill that anyone can exercise, regardless of our religious or moral convictions or varying beliefs.

The qualities that make the US House of Representatives a unique is the role of representing the people of the district. This entity should be a voice for the people. In recent years, the body seems to have lost it's way as a voice for the people and has become a voice for which ever corporate or special interest can provide the most money in campaign funds. We need to restore our government back to the people.

I believe the biggest issue that we face as a nation is corruption in government. At the core of the problem is the fact that the rigged system is at the foundation of our governing structures. As long as money and partisan politics are allowed to prevail, we can expect to lose our standing as a world power at some point in the future. So far, our power base has been based on our economic power. We are quickly losing that edge as innovators and creators of the future and the greater percentage of our populace are not being prepared to live in the world as it will be in the future.

Finally, we face a future that we aren't prepared for. We are lacking in both skills for jobs of the future, and we have thus far failed to put any meaningful effort behind preparing for that future. We face a world with limited resources, such as water, oil, and many of the minerals that we need to sustain our current way of life. We need to open new markets for trade with African countries and those with untapped resources. We also need to redevelop our infrastructure to prepare for global warming and the need to move populations to higher ground, as our coastal cities are eroding and will soon be uninhabitable.
