Source-published biography

Throughout his service in the Ohio General Assembly, McColley has earned a reputation as a principled statesman, proven leader, and effective problem-solver focused on delivering real results. First elected to the Ohio House of Representatives 2014, McColley was unanimously elected to serve as President of the Ohio Senate in January 2025. His record includes slashing government red tape, cutting taxes to spur economic growth, and enacting legislation to prevent a repeat of the COVID-19 shutdowns that Democrat Amy Acton advocated for (after which she quit her role as director of the Ohio Department of Health). A native of northwest Ohio, McColley resides in Napoleon with his wife Denise, their daughter Anna, and their twin boys Matthew and Michael.

A Message from Vivek

Candidate position

Today I am announcing my policy pledge to Ohioans on data centers. If a data center is built in your community, then (i) you will no longer have to pay for your home’s electricity, (ii) you will pay lower property taxes, and (iii) the data center will be required to abide by all air and water quality standards without exception, and we will take the necessary steps to protect Ohio’s fertile farmland. If any one of these three conditions is not met, the data center won’t be built. Period. I will work with Ohio’s state legislature to codify these commitments into law immediately after I assume office.

Finally, my plan ensures that data centers do not receive special exemptions on air and water quality standards and that our farmland is protected. This respects local conservation objectives, while also giving companies a predictable regulatory environment. Simply put: if a data center is going to be built in Ohio, we will require it to minimize its water usage by recycling and reusing its water with the best available technology. We will also require that when the water is released, it comes out just as clean as when the data center took it in. That’s common sense. We will also emphasize the use of vacant and former industrial sites known as brownfields, rather than the use of fertile farmland. Our water and farmland are some of Ohio’s greatest and most precious resources, and my plan ensures that they are protected for all Ohioans.

As Governor, Vivek will:

Enforce stricter bail and sentencing for repeat violent offenders.

Back the blue by empowering local police and sheriffs to arrest violent criminals quickly and decisively.

Address severe psychiatric illness so officers can focus on fighting crime.

Condition new data-center approvals on free electricity for nearby residents, lower local property taxes, compliance with air and water standards, and protection of farmland.

  • Plan would halt new data-center approvals until legislation is enacted; prohibit future property-tax abatements for data centers; direct resulting revenues toward homeowner rebates; require water recycling/clean discharge; and favor brownfields over fertile farmland.

Every legislation vote route in the complete official inventory for each configured General Assembly is checked. General Assemblies 129–133 are enumerated from the Legislature's archived fixed-column status-report PDFs. General Assemblies 134–136 combine the official LSC bill/joint/concurrent-resolution status report with separately reconciled official House- and Senate-resolution inventories. Official routes that return a deterministic 404, another measure's page, or a malformed unidentified page are retained as monitored unavailable-route limitations and retried after seven days; they are never interpreted as no vote. If an official page lists the same candidate under conflicting position headings for one event, both positions are quarantined as an ambiguity rather than selecting one. A position attaches only through the candidate's exact official member-profile link or a preconfigured exact published full-name alias plus matching party, after identity and service were independently verified. Fuzzy or surname-only matches, sponsorship, attendance, chamber outcomes, and omitted names are never inferred as votes.
