Candidate biography

Source-published biography

My name is Cleophus Dulaney and I’m running to represent Ohio’s 3rd Congressional District in the United States Congress. I’m running because something fundamental is broke in our politics: too much noise and not enough listening, too much loyalty to party and not enough loyalty to the people who actually live and work here in central Ohio. I grew up believing in work, in faith, and looking out for your neighbors. I didn’t expect life to be easy, but I did expect that if you worked hard and played by the rules, you’d have a fair shot. That promise feels out of reach for too many families in Columbus, in our suburbs, and in our small towns.

Candidate statement

Candidate position

I'm asking for your vote because I believe Congress should look a lot more like the people it serves, and a lot less like a permanent class of insiders who fly in, talk at you, and fly out. What I’ll fight for: There are many issues facing our country, but three are defining this race for me: the cost of living, good jobs and small businesses, and protecting our democracy.

First the cost of living. Groceries, rent, childcare, prescription drugs—almost everything is more expensive, and wages have not kept up. No family in central Ohio should have to choose between paying for medicine and paying for heat. In Congress, I will push to lower prescription drug prices by letting Medicare negotiate directly and by taking on the pharmaceutical middlemen that drive up costs. I will support targeted tax relief for working and middle‑class families, not more loopholes for those at the very top. Second good jobs and small businesses. We should be the best place in America to start a business, learn a skill, and build a career you can raise a family on. Yet too many of our young people feel they have to leave Ohio to find opportunity. I will support investment in infrastructure, advanced manufacturing, and clean energy jobs—so we are building things here again, with Ohio workers, in Ohio communities. I’ll back apprenticeship and training programs so a four‑year degree is one option, not the only ticket to a decent life. And I will be a champion for small businesses—the barbershops, diners, and startups that give our neighborhoods their character—by cutting red tape that doesn’t make us safer and expanding access to affordable capital so they can grow and hire. Third protecting our democracy. No matter where you fall on the political spectrum, we should all agree on one thing: every eligible American should be able to cast a ballot and have it counted. That’s not a partisan belief; that’s the foundation of our system. In Congress, I will support strong protections for voting rights, secure and accessible elections, and fair maps so you choose your representatives, not the other way around. I will defend free speech and peaceful assembly, while making sure our political disagreements never spill over into threats or violence.

Here is my promise to you: I will hold regular town halls in every corner of this district.I will publish my schedule and the votes I take in plain language, so you can see exactly what I’m doing with the office you entrust to me. I will put country over party, people over special interests, and the next generation over the next news cycle. You’ll hear a lot of attacks in this campaign. You’ll be told that if you vote for me, the sky will fall, your way of life will end, or your values will be erased. I don’t believe in politics of fear. I believe in politics of responsibility—doing the hard work, making tough compromises, and advancing the common good. You will also hear big promises—simple slogans for very complicated problems. I won’t promise you that I can fix everything overnight. What I will promise is that I will work every single day to move us forward, even when progress is messy and slower than we want.
