Affordability, Jobs, and the Economy

Source-published biography

People across Northern Nevada are working harder and getting less. Groceries cost more, gas and diesel cost more, housing costs more…and every month, the math gets worse. My husband and I live this as we raise our four children, and I hear this from my friends and family and as I travel across Nevada. If elected to Congress, addressing costs for families will be my number one job, not defending some abstract “economy” (which too often in DC means “investor profits”).

About Teresa

Source-published biography

My main professional career has been as a social worker, arranging adoptive families for special needs children, then a decade of work supporting terminally ill patients. Advocating for others drove me to run for state assembly in 2010; where I spent 12 years working on issues that matter to families, seniors, workers, and the Northern Nevada region as a whole. I was proud to serve multiple terms as Majority Leader of the assembly.

After being termed out of the legislature, I had the opportunity to serve as Chief of Staff to Attorney General Aaron Ford. In this position, I got to use my skills in public policy and government to help fight for Nevadans’ legal protections, including the work combatting the Trump Administration’s policies this last year (that has felt like a decade).

Affordability, Jobs, and the Economy

Candidate position

We need to stabilize the cost of living, protect the jobs that Nevada has, and fight for the jobs that Nevada needs. That means undoing the damage inflicted by the Trump administration and its so-called “One Big Beautiful Bill” on working families and pushing back against hardline federal intrusion into our daily lives. Northern Nevada needs good-paying jobs and professional pathways to ensure our communities benefit from economic diversification instead of profits flowing out of state. That is what I will fight for in Congress.

Public Lands, Wildfire Preparedness, and the Northern Nevada Landscape

Candidate position

Public lands are foundational to Northern Nevada, and their preservation is embedded in our constitution. It’s important that we protect public lands and coordinate with federal partners to manage these lands. Land sales should occur only through collaboration with local and tribal stakeholders, as well as input from citizens and conservation groups — not through “dead of night” budget amendments and 500,000-acre fire sales to pay for tax cuts.

Election Security and Democracy

Candidate position

American democracy is under pressure from three directions: foreign interference, Trump’s voter suppression efforts, and the corrosive effect of unlimited money in politics. Free, fair, accessible elections are the foundation of American democracy — and Congress has a direct and urgent obligation to protect them. That means opposing the SAVE Act and every other effort to institute onerous barriers to voter registration. It means expanding, not restricting, mail voting and early voting. It means modernizing election infrastructure and investing in cybersecurity. And it means passing the For the People Act framework — automatic voter registration, same-day registration, redistricting reform, and campaign finance disclosure — because that is the package voters actually want and allows the most eligible people to participate in the process.

The United States-Israel Relationship

Candidate position

The last few years have made it clear that the policies of the Netanyahu government — the death of more than 70,000 Palestinian civilians in Gaza, the use of American weapons in those deaths, increased extremist actions in the West Bank, the war of choice in Iran — has crossed lines that most Americans are not willing to look away from. The United States has a long relationship with Israel, but a real relationship is not based on unconditional support for whatever any foreign government does, any time, without question.

Why I’m Running

Candidate position

I’m running to fight for our families, for our community, and for our way of life. We need a congress focused on providing health care, safer communities, and stabilizing the economy to make the price of groceries, healthcare, and housing more affordable. We need a reformed immigration system that works, not federal agents pulling families apart. I’m asking you to join me in fighting to take back Congress to focus on what regular people in Northern Nevada need.

Public Lands, Wildfire Preparedness, and the Northern Nevada Landscape

Candidate position

Nevada is home to 48 million acres of public land, and funding for federal agencies to manage this land is critical. These are the places where we enjoy hunting, fishing, and hiking, but they are also where wildland fires burn. The reduction — and in some cases elimination — of federal dollars and grants for wildfire capacity and flood mitigation must be reversed. The 2025 Nevada wildfire season saw hundreds of fires; the Conner Fire alone burned more than 17,000 acres in Douglas County.1 2 At the same time, the Trump administration’s DOGE-driven workforce cuts are hitting the exact federal workers who prevent fires from becoming catastrophes. In Tahoe National Forest, 21 U.S. Forest Service (USFS) staff were fired during Red Card recertification season — the window when wildland firefighters renew their certifications.3 The administration’s plan to consolidate federal firefighting into a new “U.S. Wildland Fire Service” is a reorganization at the exact moment we need stability, and it may strip the mitigation function — prescribed burns, fuels reduction — in favor of suppression alone.4

My position is simple: Healthcare should be as accessible and inexpensive as possible. Hospitals and providers should have dependable payer sources to ensure they can keep their clinic doors open. That means defending the Affordable Care Act, ensuring Medicaid covers mental and behavioral health issues, and protecting reproductive freedom through federal legislation.

The United States-Israel Relationship

Candidate position

My position is that U.S. military aid to Israel should not be unconditional and that Israel should not receive blank checks from the United States. This is why I support phasing out direct financial support for offensive arms sales to Israel. I also support conditional arms sales when they are consistent with American law – this means no arm sales for countries that have a pattern of violating international human rights and no arm sales to countries that block humanitarian aid. Additionally, it means not accepting campaign money from organizations who don’t support this change, including AIPAC.

Public Lands, Wildfire Preparedness, and the Northern Nevada Landscape

Candidate position

In May 2025, Rep. Mark Amodei introduced a “dead of night” amendment to a federal budget reconciliation bill authorizing the sale of nearly 500,000 acres of public land in Nevada and Utah.5 Senator Cortez Masto called it “one of the single biggest sell-offs of Nevada public lands in history” and “a land grab to fund Republicans’ billionaire giveaway tax bill.”6 The proposed parcels in the Senate version reportedly would have included Kiva Beach, much of Fallen Leaf Lake, Tallac Historic Site, and USFS-leased ski terrain.7 Interior Secretary Burgum and HUD Secretary Turner are running a joint task force to identify “underutilized” federal lands for residential development — a scheme dressed up as housing policy.5 And now, the Bureau of Land Managements is about to be run by Steve Pearce, who has a record of championing aggressive policies to sell public land. I will resist this reckless“divestment” of public land.

I have been fighting for quality health care for a long time: I voted to create public-option healthcare program, which covers 10,000 people through the Battle Born State Plan; made sure you can’t be charged out of pocket cost for contraception and extended the period of time you can get a prescription for contraception; voted for measures to address Nevada’s high maternal mortality rates; and voted for a package of legislation to create transparency in drug pricing. We have made real strides in Nevada, but Trump’s agenda keeps pulling us backward. We need to elect someone to Congress who will fight for our access to affordable healthcare, not against it.
