Why LaMonica?

Source-published biography

On September 23, LaMonica McIver was sworn into Congress to serve out the remaining term of the late Representative Donald J. Payne, Jr. after winning the special election on September 18 and special primary on July 16. She is the first Black woman to represent the CD-10 and the youngest ever to be elected to the United States House of Representative from New Jersey. And this is not the beginning of her record-breaking in elected office. In 2018, LaMonica was elected as the youngest woman ever to the Newark Council where she proudly served as Council President for the past 7 years. She has been a stalwart champion for the needs and aspirations of every resident of Newark’s Central Ward and now she’s doing the same for all who live and work in CD10.

Protecting Reproductive Rights

Candidate position
Policy

Nearly two years following the Supreme Court's reversal of Roe v. and the constitutional right to choose, millions of Americans are living under extreme state abortion bans. These dangerous laws are putting women’s health and lives at risk and preventing doctors from giving patients the care they’ve been trained to provide. Congressional Republicans have indicated their intent to swiftly enact a nationwide abortion ban should they regain control in Washington, overriding our protections in New Jersey and putting the lives of countless women across the country at risk. This cannot happen. We need to pass a clear, comprehensive law protecting reproductive rights for everyone in the United States, regardless of what state they live in.

Every numbered U.S. House roll call published by the Clerk during the configured service window is reconciled through the member's exact Bioguide ID. Clerk XML through 2002 does not publish Bioguide IDs, so those rows require a candidate-specific official House identity and service bridge plus one unique exact published-name, party, and state tuple.
