Candidate for Montana's First District

Source-published biography

Sam was raised by a mom who picked up extra nursing shifts and a dad who became a public school teacher, and they made just enough to get by. That childhood taught Sam the value of hard work. It also taught him just how hard it can be for working people to get by in an economy that too often doesn’t work for them.

Retirement security and Social Security

Candidate position

Every Montanan should be able to work a good-paying job that allows them to afford housing, healthcare, childcare, and a good retirement. That’s not the case anymore for so many Montanans, but it can be.

Health care

Candidate position

Right now in this country, we deal with basic needs like housing and healthcare the same way that we deal with forest management and wildfire – we wait until it’s an absolute crisis, and then we pay for it in the most expensive, least effective way possible. Whether that’s a 60 year-old woman sitting in the emergency room because she couldn’t afford a primary care visit, or a wildfire burning into a subdivision because our leaders lacked the courage to invest in our public lands up front. We can spend our resources more wisely and solve the biggest problems facing our country by taking action now.

Health care

Candidate position

For so many of us in Montana, the cost of just living here has reached crisis levels – but we’ve solved crises like these before, and we can solve them again by investing in affordable housing & childcare, reforming our broken healthcare system, and making corporations and the ultra-rich carry their own weight just like the rest of us. For years now, national leaders in both parties have left working people in Montana behind. It’s time for a new generation of leadership to step up and make Congress finally work for working people.
