A Son of Gulfport

My name is Jeffrey Hulum III. I was raised in the Gaston Point Community in Gulfport and am a proud product of Gulfport Public Schools. I served 22 years in the United States Army and came home to work for my community. As the founder of Extend A Hand, Help A Friend, I’ve spent nearly 10 years fighting food insecurity head on and helping fill the gaps felt by children, seniors and families across the Gulf Coast.

The Issues I Will Fight For

Candidate position

South Mississippi deserves an economy that works for working people, not just for corporations and the wealthy. Families should be able to earn a living wage, support their children, and build a secure life right here at home.

Quality Education

Candidate position

Every child deserves a quality education, no matter their ZIP code. Strong schools build strong communities — investing tax payer dollars in our children is the best investment we can make in our future.

Affordable Healthcare

Candidate position

No family should go broke to see a doctor or afford life-saving medication. Access to healthcare is a basic necessity especially in a state where rural hospitals are closing, costs keep rising, and current policies continue to decrease funding for Mississippi’s fragile healthcare system.

Criminal Justice Reform

Candidate position

Our justice system should keep communities safe while ensuring fairness, accountability, and rehabilitation. We can protect public safety and still work toward a system that treats every person with dignity.

Social Justice

Candidate position

A fair and free society requires treating every person with dignity and equality. We must ensure that civil rights, voting rights, and basic freedoms are protected for all Mississippians. Every citizen of Mississippi deserves the right and access to participate in the democratic process.

For nearly a decade, I’ve worked directly with families, seniors, and young people across the Coast, often during moments when they were facing unexpected hardship.

Candidate position

I will look beyond media-driven narratives and political noise to focus on the realities faced by working families across South Mississippi, not the interests of wealthy donors or national power brokers.

Serving at Home

Candidate position

When the federal government put a halt to social services because of partisan fighting, we stepped up and distributed over 500,000lbs of high quality food across the Mississippi Gulf Coast, regardless of income or residency. Those long lines full of neighbors, full-time workers, and retirees was a clear reminder to me just how close all of us are to being in need when crises hit, and how important it is for leaders and those who can to show up.

The Fight for South Mississippi

Candidate position

I’m running for Congress because South Mississippi deserves representation that listens, responds, and cares enough to be accountable to the real needs of our district. South Mississippi deserves a leader that understands their concerns through direct experience and will go beyond politics to guarantee real results.

The Fight for South Mississippi

Candidate position

I fought for our country in the Army. I’ve fought for the City of Gulfport in the Mississippi legislature. Now I want to fight for all of South Mississippi against a broken system that leaves too many hardworking people with the short end of the stick.

National security, foreign policy, and veterans

Candidate position

After 22 successful years across six combat deployments in the Army, I know what it takes to keep our country safe. National security must be grounded in strength, readiness, and leadership with the experience needed for thoughtful, informed decision-making, instead of partisan actions that undermine stability rather than strengthen America’s position at home and abroad.
