About the Campaign

Source-published biography

We want to ensure every policy proposal we promote demonstrates our transparency, every training session feels safe and supportive because it is founded on inclusivity, and every voter contact is a chance to expand our ecosystem into a living breathing example of what real multiparty democracy can and should look like in our state. How we do work in our campaign is an example of the world we want to see.

Candidate biography

Source-published biography

I was born in Washington, D.C., and spent my K-8 years in Virginia, but my heart knew that, like our state bird and my favorite team, the Baltimore Orioles, I belonged in Maryland. I attended Thomas Johnson High School in Frederick, then college at Towson University and St. Mary College of Maryland, and I have called Baltimore City home since 2005.

Candidate biography

Source-published biography

My name is Owen, and I have worked as an activist and an educator for over a decade. I believe in systems without hierarchy, especially in learning environments. Activism, like adult education, shouldn’t be about trainer and trainee. It should focus on creating knowledge and redistributing resources.

A Decade of Transformation

Candidate position

Becoming a Maryland that works for everyone starts with the courage to imagine a better state and then building the power to transform the current system. Transformation will not occur in the current two-party system. Maryland needs an independent party rooted in peace, justice, democracy, and ecology. A party that represents the people left behind, the people who have checked out, the people organizing in their communities, and the people marching in the street and on the picket lines.

Government ethics, accountability, and elections

Candidate position

I have done a lot of advocacy and organizing but my focus is mostly on grassroots democracy. I believe that grassroots democracy works best when there are organizations independent of the two party system, that are open to anyone to join. I believe these organizations need to push on government offices and elected leaders to make sure that the democracy is easy to access and that voters are engaged all the time, not just at election season.

At the same time, we will be putting forward bold policy proposals that get at the heart of the issues facing Maryland: the need for a solidarity economy, the climate and environmental crises, high-quality public education, healthcare and housing as human rights, reliable public transit, divestment from war and genocide, and more.
