WHERE I STAND

Candidate-stated

I’ve made government deliver for Louisiana before. After the 2016 flood I went to Washington with the Governor and brought home nearly $3 billion — then spent years putting it to work, elevating houses and putting Fortified roofs on thousands of homes so families could come back after the next storm. I’m running because Washington isn’t delivering now, and people in Louisiana are paying for it every month — at the pump, on the insurance bill, at the pharmacy counter. It doesn’t have to be this way. Lower the Bills Everywhere I go, people tell me the same thing: everything costs more than it used to, and it keeps going up. Gas is running about 80 cents a gallon over last year — roughly $12 every time you fill the tank. Home insurance is up nearly 40% in three years. Diesel, groceries, everything that rides in on a truck. That isn’t a statistic. That’s money that used to go somewhere else.

WHERE I STAND

Candidate position

Stop the war. The war with Iran is driving up the price of gas, diesel, and everything that moves on a truck — which is everything. Two out of three Americans want no part of it. Congress is supposed to be a check on the President, not a rubber stamp, and I’ll vote like it.

WHERE I STAND

End the corruption and self-dealing in Washington. Members of Congress trading on information the rest of us don’t have. Policy written to order for the people who paid for it. It’s corruption whatever they choose to call it, and I’ll lead the fight to stop it — starting with a ban on stock trading by members of Congress.

Protect Your Vote In April the U.S. Supreme Court's Callais decision basically gutted the Voting Rights Act — the law that has ensured equal access to the ballot for every American for sixty years. Five weeks later the Louisiana Legislature redrew our congressional lines to rig the system in favor of Republicans. Nobody moved. Nobody changed their mind. Five of our six seats now lean one way. Only the map changed. More recently, President Trump issued an Executive Order that requires the Postal Service to refuse to deliver mail-in ballots in states that don't do what Washington tells them. This federal intervention into free and fair elections designed to tilt the scales in favor of one political party is contrary to free and fair elections. The administration of elections in American has always been a state function, and it should remain that way. Federal intervention into the administration of elections to favor one party over the other is wrong and only serves to erode the public's confidence in free and fair elections.

Take the map away from the politicians. Politicians, regardless of party, should not be able to pick a district that guarantees their own re-election. Redistricting should be conducted every ten years after the census in a manner that guarantees every voter has an equal voice in our democratic process. The non-stop cycle of partisan gerrymandering must come to an end.

Protect Your Coverage

Belief

Here’s what happens next, and it happens to all of us. People without coverage get sicker. They put things off until it’s an emergency room visit they can’t pay for. That cost doesn’t disappear — it lands on everybody else’s premium. And our hospitals, the rural ones first, start running in the red. Some won’t make it. When the hospital in your parish closes, it doesn’t matter what your insurance card says.
