From the Garage to the Global Stage

Candidate-stated

Born in Seattle in 1959 and raised in San Diego, Scott was the kind of kid who preferred the canyons and the garage to sitting still in a classroom. His father, Harvey, an aerospace engineer, would bring home real engineering problems for his son to tinker with. By age 11, Scott was building and selling custom furniture and dollhouses. At 16 he took a job as a dishwasher at a Bonanza Steakhouse; by 18 he was in management. The carpet cleaning business he launched with a partner in those early years is still operating today.

Insurance

Candidate position

Government rules and state programs keep pushing your insurance higher. We will cut those rules and open the market so more companies compete for your business. More competition means lower premiums for Florida homeowners.

School choice

Candidate position

Parents should decide where their kids go to school. We support real school choice so education dollars follow the child, not the system. Public, private, charter, or homeschool, families pick what works best. Bureaucrats don’t.

II. ELECTIONS

Candidate position

The only electoral duty of the State government should be providing for fair and efficient conduct of elections. Political parties, like any private voluntary group, should be free from government control and allowed to establish their own rules for nomination procedures and conventions.

Your donations are valued. The money is spent wisely. You live on a budget. So should we.

Candidate position

When I accepted the nomination for lieutenant governor, we did not throw a big party to celebrate and make the announcement. We made a video. It did the job. It cost a fraction of what other campaigns spend on a night of catering, rooms, and applause. That is how we treat campaign money. It is also how we will treat your tax dollars.

Other campaigns spend other people’s money like it is a party fund. We will never waste money like that. If you work extra hours to cover insurance and groceries, you deserve leaders who will not waste your money. We will work for you and will never forget that.

V. VICE LAWS

Candidate position

Criminal sentencing should be reserved for crimes which have a discernible victim. The punishment should be appropriate to the crime. We oppose all laws and regulations that attempt to protect individuals from the consequences of their own behavior. While not necessarily condoning such activities, we advocate the repeal of all laws criminalizing gambling, possession and sale of drugs, and sexual relations between consenting adults. All those presently incarcerated or ever convicted solely for the commission of these victimless crimes must be pardoned and their records expunged.
