Only one other time have I lived in a city where armed troops patrolled the streets. My Peace Corps service in Guinea ended three months early after what had been a bloodless coup degraded into a massacre of peaceful protestors. I will work to send the National Guard home until the moment they are back at home with their families, working their normal day jobs. We will continue to fight for DC Statehood, and I will work constantly to build the coalition that will get it done.
