A Working Man for Connecticut’s 2nd District

Source-published biography

I put myself through Central Connecticut State University, earned a degree in Construction Management, and built a life as a small business owner. Nothing came easy—I succeeded because I refused to take “NO” for an answer. That’s the same sense of urgency I want to bring to families who feel the future here is slipping away.

George Austin: I’m Not One of Them. I’m One of You.

Source-published biography

Who am I? I’m a humble, regular guy. My dad is from Mexico, and my sisters were born there and still live there. My parents met in a little town bar, passing a pocket dictionary back and forth because he didn’t speak English yet. I didn’t grow up in politics. I grew up in construction—working with my hands, going to job sites before sunrise, and building a life here in eastern Connecticut.

Candidate-stated

I’m George Austin, a resident of North Central Connecticut. I married young, after meeting my wife and stepson in Mexico, at the age of 17, and worked through the challenges of our immigration system. I waited, sacrificed, and persevered– experiences that shaped my resilience and gave me a unique perspective that I carry with me today. Nothing came easy—I succeeded because I refused to take “NO” for an answer. That’s the same sense of urgency I want to bring to families who feel the future here is slipping away. I’ve been proud to serve my community as a member of the Home Builders & Remodelers Association, the National Federation of Independent Business, and both CCDL and the NRA. Connecticut is the best place to raise a family, but too many of our kids can’t afford to stay. I’m not a politician—I’m one of you, an everyday working man who knows what it means to fight for a better future.

Economy, jobs, taxes, and affordability

Candidate position

To me, this job should feel like putting on a hard hat and grabbing a lunchbox every morning. That lunchbox mindset is simple: pack your own lunch, watch every dollar, and do the unglamorous work it takes to provide for your family. That’s how working people have always dealt with tough times—by cutting costs, being frugal, and doing without extras. I’m running so that Washington finally adopts that same lunch‑box mindset: do your job, cut waste, and stop abusing the taxpayer credit card with impunity — treating other people’s money like it’s endless.

All of us living through the AI revolution: we need serious guardrails so new technology doesn’t wipe out people’s jobs and opportunities before they even get started in life, and so American workers—not just a few tech monopolies and foreign adversaries—benefit from the next wave of innovation.

Securing Our Borders, Fixing a Broken System

Candidate position

Strengthen border security and restore order. Enforcement tools should be used where they are most effective, including physical barriers in appropriate locations, cooperative international arrangements, and improved interior enforcement. Reform and accelerate the asylum process. Individuals fleeing legitimate political or religious persecution should receive timely and fair decisions. Raising standards, reducing backlogs, and increasing adjudication capacity can ensure that valid claims are protected while fraudulent claims are addressed efficiently. Clear consequences for abuse of the system are necessary to maintain integrity and protect resources for those truly in need.

Supporting the Trades – Building Opportunity for Connecticut’s 2nd District

Candidate position
Belief

In Congress, I’ll fight to direct federal funds toward apprenticeships, job training, and technical education that connect students directly with local employers. By building strong partnerships with Connecticut’s manufacturers, defense industries, and small businesses, we can ensure the next generation has the skills to step into good-paying jobs right here at home.
