Pillar: Don’t Make Things Worse

Source-published biography

I spent two years fixing computers from Nogales to Douglas, listening to produce importers worry about a bad grape crop across the border. I didn’t need a briefing book to learn that Arizona and Mexico share an economy. I needed a screwdriver and the patience to listen.

Before the Four: The Border, ICE, and the Fear Machine

Source-published biography

So here’s the meta-observation this campaign was built for: the fear machine doesn’t invent fear — it harvests it. And it’s been harvesting a long time. Immigration was “in crisis” for my entire adult life. It was “in crisis” in the South Dakota I grew up in during the ’80s. It was “in crisis” in my grandfather’s time up there, when the fear was that the new people would take the brick factory jobs. Same speech, new faces to be afraid of, for a hundred years. That rancher has been promised a solution in every election since before I could vote — he still has cartel traffic on his land. Because a problem this profitable to campaign on does not get solved; solving it would end the fundraising. The machine uses the rancher as a prop and the migrant as a villain, cashes the checks, and delivers nothing to either of them. It ran on my grandfather. It’s running on you. Fear is the product. I’m not selling it.

Pillar: Critical Thinking and Common Sense

Pillar: Honesty

Candidate position

A congressional stock trading ban — no individual stocks for members, spouses, or dependents while in office. Blind trusts or index funds. This idea has had bipartisan support for years; it keeps dying because the people voting on it are the people profiting from it.

Before the Four: The Border, ICE, and the Fear Machine

Candidate position

You’ll notice immigration isn’t one of my four planks. That’s deliberate, and you deserve to know why: I don’t have a comprehensive immigration plan. Neither does anyone else — the honest ones just admit it. What I have is a district that shares a border with Sonora, a test for every vote, and a refusal to sell you fear.

Plank 1: Anti-Corruption (Pillar: Honesty)

Most corruption in Washington is legal. Stock trading ban, revolving-door lockout, real-time disclosure — and everything I’m asking Congress to do, I’m already doing myself, unpaid.

Plank 4: Affordability — And the Right to Own What You Buy (Pillar: Caring)

Candidate position

Affordability isn’t just prices going up — it’s ownership going away. Right to repair, truth in “buy,” and honest pricing, because “the market” can’t fix what four companies quietly agree on.

Candidate position

TL;DR (that's "Too Long; Didn't Read" — and yes, we're aware that explaining the acronym makes this longer, which is probably the most honest thing on the page):We use AI. We're not hiding it. We run most of it on solar power at our house instead of in a data center, we never use it to lie to you, and nobody here posts raw AI output without a human tearing it apart first. That's the whole policy. Everything below is just us showing our work.

No Donors No Party No Filters No Lies

Candidate position

I’m running with no party affiliation. Not because I think I’m above it, but because I don’t want to owe anyone a vote before I’ve read the bill. Independents don’t get a primary, a donor list, or a team telling them how to vote. That’s the point. If I get this wrong, it’s on me. If I get it right, it’s also on me. Either way, you’ll know exactly who to hold responsible.

Don't just take my word for it — see everyone on the ballot

Candidate position

Good, so are we. Before you get worked up and start yelling about us being hypocrites because we use AI tools and don’t work in a data center: we run most of our own AI work locally, on our own hardware, largely on solar. And it’s also a policy position, not just a personal habit — I’m pushing for mandatory public reporting of data-center water and energy use, and an end to sweetheart utility deals that make Arizona families subsidize grid upgrades for trillion-dollar companies. If you want to build in the desert, the desert gets to see the bill. Read the full AI plank →

Honesty (Even When It Costs Me)

Candidate position

I will tell you the truth, even when a comfortable lie would be easier for me. That doesn't mean cruelty; you lead with kindness, then you tell the truth. But you don't get a representative who lies (even by omission; I hate those types of lies the worst) because the honest answer polls badly.

Candidate position

Treat cartels like the organized crime they are. Go after the networks — the smuggling operations, the money, the guns running south — with real resources and real coordination, and stop pretending that raiding a dairy farm or a church parking lot is the same thing as fighting a cartel. One is theater. The other is dangerous, unglamorous law-enforcement work that border residents have been asking for, for decades. Fund the second one. And when a rancher calls for help, someone should come.

I’ve written about what I call constrained AI — the idea that you get more reliable, safer, more accountable results not by chasing a more powerful model, but by designing the workflow and the limits around it properly. I’ve built processes that run perfectly well on the AI models that already exist, and that actually perform better in organizational and business settings — more safety, more security, more accountability — than what the big companies are selling. (Paper, supporting material, and live demonstrations available on request. I’m not asking you to take my word for it.)

Here’s the part people don’t believe: a lot of the time, AI doesn’t even save us time. When somebody sends a long question through this website, I write the whole answer out myself, the way I always have. Then I hand it to a custom AI tool and ask it to rewrite it the way a person will actually read it — and it cuts my rambling three-page reply down to half a page and ten bullet points. That doesn’t save me a single minute. What it does is make sure the thing I’m trying to say actually gets read and understood. That’s the point. Not speed. Clarity.

We have two kids. We have four cats (not by choice; a hawk dropped one in our yard, and here we are). We have real health issues in this house that eat the hours we’d rather spend on other things. Add a high-stress, high-impact day job, a community we run to support people of every type and belief, the occasional desperate attempt at a date night and a movie, and a house and yard that are perpetually one project behind. (If anyone knows someone who does plaster work cheap, please, I’m begging you.)

We’ve been shifting our AI work toward sustainability, with an environmental focus. and these days the majority of it runs locally, on our own computers, right here in my office. Most of my AI work doesn’t touch a hosted data center at all. Once they’re set up and trained properly, my machines at home generate images, handle editing, and produce text about as well as the cloud models did a year ago. And because my whole approach was built starting from those local constraints, it’s structurally sound from the ground up.
