Candidate statement

My father, grandfather, and great-grandfather were all Baptist preachers. Therefore, I was raised in a conservative home with traditional Christian values. I attend Faith Baptist Church in Decatur each Sunday with my family. As your State Auditor, please know that my faith guides me in the policies I support, the actions I take, and the way I treat other people. My voting record in the State Legislature was 100% pro-life, and I will always support Christian cultural values that have served America so well.

Voter Registration Advisory Board

Candidate position

I will seek to change the Voter Registration Advisory Board to be the Voter Registration and Election Integrity Advisory Board. The reason for this is simple — more than 95% of all eligible Alabamians are already registered to vote. Solving our election integrity issues must demand equal focus with voter registration. I will seek to expand the board membership and involve representatives from the Board of Registrars, Probate Judges, Circuit Clerks, Sheriffs, the Secretary of State’s office, and concerned citizens who are the foot soldiers fighting for election integrity. As Auditor, I currently have 3 appointments to this important board, and I have attended several of the meetings. I believe an expansion of this board is warranted, and I will be asking the legislature to implement this plan.

Alabama DOGE

Candidate position

I am a huge fan of the work Elon Musk did at the federal level to cut federal spending and stop wasting money. Although Alabama’s budgets are in much better shape than the federal budgets are, I assure you, there’s still plenty of waste in our spending as well. In my second term I would like to spearhead an effort to identify and eliminate wasteful spending of taxpayer dollars. I believe that a group of constitutional officers, legislators, state employees, conservative think tank representatives, and businessmen could identify dozens of ways that Alabama could save money in our budgets each year.

Board of Registrars

Pay Raises for Registrars and Poll Workers

Candidate position

Our registrars serve out of a sense of duty and commitment to secure elections, but low pay and no benefits means few are willing to take the job. I believe our registrars should earn a minimum of $150 per day for their work and receive benefits like all other state employees receive.

“I'm running for re-election to State Auditor because I care deeply about government accountability. I have a real PLAN for my second term to continue improving our processes and slashing government spending.”

Candidate position

I want to continue serving as your State Auditor. My record on election integrity is strong; as State Representative I supported the ban on curbside voting, supported a bill criminalizing those who cast ballots in multiple states in the same election cycle, and supported a bill banning “Zuckerbucks” (private money being spent on election workers and equipment) that would have created vulnerabilities in our process.

Property Investigations and Negligent Loss Recovery

Candidate position
FactVote summary · Policy

Expand the State Auditor's authority to investigate negligent losses of state property and seek repayment from responsible parties.

  • Would create a new Property Investigations Division and seek legislation allowing the Auditor to determine negligent loss and issue repayment demand letters.

Continue my excellent record of tracking the $1.3 billion worth of taxpayer property. Under my leadership, the state loses just a fraction of a percent of state property each year. We have over 300,000 inventory items on our rolls and we audit about 180 state departments and agencies. I am proud of our strong record ensuring your state property is accounted for!

Additionally, I will seek to strengthen the duties of the Auditor’s office by pushing for legislation to allow my office to determine when there is a negligent loss of state property. This legislation would also allow me to issue demand letters to those responsible for repayment of the money to the state when the loss is truly negligent.

I will open a new Property Investigations Division so we can investigate when state property goes missing. As your state Auditor for the last 4 years, I can name many instances where property was stolen, lost, or damaged, and no one was held responsible. In some cases, the property losses exceeded $20,000. Ultimately, taxpayers are on the hook for that money. This is totally unacceptable! I will hold state employees responsible, and we will investigate these property cases as we continue our routine audits.

Registrar and Poll Worker Compensation

Pay Raises for Registrars and Poll Workers

Our registrars serve out of a sense of duty and commitment to secure elections, but low pay and no benefits means few are willing to take the job. I believe our registrars should earn a minimum of $150 per day for their work and receive benefits like all other state employees receive.

Probate Judges in Alabama have had challenges finding enough people to work the polls due to the low rate of pay. In Colbert County, where my family and I live, more than 200 poll workers are needed to administrate every election. For a roughly 13-hour workday, they are only paid $125, which amounts to less than $10/hour and barely exceeds the minimum wage. Again, poll workers volunteer for these jobs out of a sense of civic duty, but they deserve more than they are currently earning. As your State Auditor for a second term, I will push legislation raising poll worker pay by at least $25 above its current level.
